The purity copper is bright shiny. But leaving the copper in
the open air for several days gradually produces a light green layer. That
green layer is called Patina. This is actually due to Chemical reactions of
copper among with oxygen in the air. For the same reason, if the iron is kept
in the air for too long, it will rust. Copper oxidation reaction produces
copper salt called copper carbonate. The color of this salt is also green. Due
to this patina level, the bottom copper is not wasted. Because of this quality
of copper, in many countries, the roof of the house is covered with copper. As
a result, the roofs of these buildings are green in color.

alloys, and as a residence material, such as sterling silver used in jewelry.
Cupronickel used to make marine hardware and coins too.
Copper does not react with water, but it slowly builds up a
layer of brown-black copper oxide with atmospheric oxygen.
